How Is Dussehra Celebrated?

Worshiping the Goddess Durga: People pay respect to the goddess Durga and commemorate her victory over the demon Mahishasura at the widely observed Durga Puja in India. It is marked by several customs and ceremonies throughout five days. Durga Pooja will be observed from October 9 to October 13, 2024.
Worshipping Weapons: Also referred to as Ayudha Pooja or Shastra Pooja, the tales state that goddess Durga vanquished the demon on this day. The gods praised her weapons after the victory. On the day of the Vijayadashami festival, people worship their weapons and present sacrifices to the goddess.
Astrological Significance of the Dussehra 2024 Festival
Ravana, full of hubris, ventured to put Lord Shani in jail for attempting to sabotage the plan to give Meghnath invincibility. Shani dev’s cries could be heard from a dark dungeon as Lord Hanuman traveled to the kingdom of Lanka to see Goddess Sita. He freed Shanidev from a prison cell. Lord Shani was appreciative of this and bestowed a blessing, promising not to harm anyone who followed Lord Hanuman. It has been thought ever since that worshiping Lord Hanuman can assist followers in escaping the negative consequences of Shani’s Sadhe Sati or Shani Drishti.
