Devutthana Ekadashi 2024 Rituals

With Dev Uthani Ekadashi, the auspicious activities and rituals that were suspended during Devshayani Ekadashi are resumed. While Goddess Lakshmi is thought to bestow upon houses enduring wealth, success, and abundance, worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day invites his unique grace onto families.

In the absence of Lord Vishnu, only Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped at the Chaturmas celebration of Diwali. Nonetheless, believers commemorate Dev Diwali by worshiping both Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi jointly on Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which follows Lord Vishnu’s waking. Devutthana Ekadashi Vrat Puja Vidhi

Lord Vishnu is worshipped and urged to awaken on this Ekadashi. The following are the customs observed on this Ekadashi:

  • On the morning of Ekadashi, pledge to fast and meditate on Lord Vishnu’s name.
  • After bathing and cleaning the house, draw Lord Vishnu’s feet in your courtyard.
  • Draw the images of God in an Okhli pounder and fill them with sugarcane, seasonal fruit, jujube, water chestnut (singhara), and other sweets. Next, place a lid over it.
  • Light lamps (Diya) at temples and outside of your house on this day.
  • Family members should worship Lord Vishnu and all other gods and goddesses at night.
  • Then, while reciting these words: Utho Deva, Batho Deva, Aanguria Chatkao Deva, Nayi Soot, Nayi Kapas, and Deva Uthaye Kartik Masa, ring bells and blow a conch (Shankha) to awaken Lord Vishnu from his sleep.
