Vijaya Ekadashi 2025: Rituals, Fasting Benefits, and Spiritual Insights
Vijaya Ekadashi 2025: According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the Krishna Paksha, the dark fortnight of the waning Moon, and the Shukla Paksha, the light fortnight of the waxing Moon. Hindus regard Ekadashi, which occurs twice a month, to be auspicious. They worship Lord Vishnu/Shri Krishna, to whom this holy day is devoted, and observe Vrat, or fast, on the day. Fasting on Ekadashi has been practiced since ancient times to appease Lord Vishnu and obtain his blessings.
In addition to Hindus, Ekadashi is a sacred day for Jains. There are 26 Ekadashis in leap years and 24 in other years. The Ekadashi norms state that the day should be spent chanting the name of Lord Vishnu, listening to the Ekadashi Vrat Katha, and—most importantly—remaining awake and conscious during the Ekadashi night while singing praises to Lord Vishnu. Every Ekadashi has a unique Vrat Katha, or story, that demonstrates the strength of Ekadashi Vrat, or fast.
