Holi Festival 2024 History and Significance

The Puranas claim that the history of Holi predates both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. One of the four eras in Hindu mythology, Satyuga, was home to the powerful demon Hiranyakashipu. The fact that his son, Prahlad, was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu deeply infuriated the demon king. He attempted to kill his son in multiple ways, but none of them worked. One method involved having Holika, his sister, sit next to Prahlad in a fire since she had a magical cloak that kept her safe from the flames.

But Lord Vishnu intervened as they were sitting in the fire, causing Holika to burn, and saving Prahlad. The villagers celebrated their victory over the demoness the following morning. Holi festival 2024 is celebrated to commemorate the triumph of good over evil for this reason.

According to another version, Lord Krishna had feelings for Radha but was afraid she wouldn’t accept him because he was dark and she was fair. He speared Radha’s face with colored powder, following his mother Yashoda’s advice, and that was how their romance started.

Significance of Vasant Panchami Festival

Hindu mythology holds that Brahma is the creator of the universe. He desired to see his creation and be in awe of its majesty after creating the world. Thus, he set out for Earth. When he finally arrived on the planet, he was dismayed to see nothing but desolate solitude and stillness. He therefore made an angel of equal strength to himself. Brahma requested a song to be played for him by the angel who held a harp. The angel blessed the creation and the people who live on Earth with her beautiful voice. This angel went by the name Saraswati, also known as Veena Vadini.

The purpose of the Festival Vasant Panchami is to honor the goddess Saraswati. She is considered to be the source of wisdom and the embodiment of creative force. She is a representation of wealth and prosperity. This day, which is honored by paying homage to the goddess of knowledge, is frequently seen as lucky for a child’s initial educational teachings. Aksharabhyasam, also known as Vidyarambam, is the name of this ritual. It is also the time of year when spring arrives with all of its abundant gifts.

In India, mustard flowers are at their peak during this period. When the mustard fields are in full bloom, they resemble yellow flower beds. Consequently, this celebration has a strong association with the color yellow. People wear yellow to celebrate the event, and even the delicious food made especially for it, such as khichdi, has a lot of yellow in it. Yellow is a color associated with warmth and pleasure in most civilizations. Moreover, the goddess Saraswati is said to be partial to this color according to Indian astrology. The goddess Saraswati’s idols are dressed in yellow sarees as a result.

The Significance and Importance of Ahoi Ashtami 2023

Mothers celebrate Ahoi Ashtami with the hope of providing a healthy and happy life for their children. Women undertake a fast while performing elaborate ceremonies to adore the goddess Ahoi. It is said that the Ahoi Ashtami Puja Vidhi should be performed by women who are having trouble conceiving or who have miscarried in order to have a healthy kid. It is customary to break the fast after stargazing, following a full day of fasting. The Hindu Panchang’s Ahoi Ashtami calendar indicates when it is possible to glimpse the stars.

Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Katha

A woman in the hamlet, who had seven boys, went to the forest in the Hindu month of Kartik to fetch some supplies for her home’s restoration. She began using an axe to dig the ground close to a den. Sadly, the cub in the den perished when the woman’s axe fell on it. The woman had sympathy and guilt.

Her seven sons passed away in less than a year after her sons began to pass away one by one after a few days. She started feeling down, and some of the older women in her village began comforting her. She told them the whole story of the cub’s death and explained that everything had happened accidentally.

The woman thanked her for her confession and informed her that she had already atoned for half of her guilt by doing so. They advised her to worship Ashtami Bhagwati, the goddess, in order to get her sins forgiven. Following her fast on Kartik Krishna Ashtami, the woman began a regular prayer and fast. Some time, she got back all seven sons.

Ahoi Ashtami 2023 Vidhi and Rituals

Ahoi Ashtami Puja is only effective when all the procedures are followed. The following are the procedures for doing Ahoi Ashtami Puja:

1. Sankalp: Women should make the Sankalp (promise) and observe the fast in order to ensure the long life of their offspring on the day of the Ahoi Ahstami festival.

2. Ahoi Ashtami Puja: During the Ahoi Ashtami Puja, Ahoi Mata is worshipped. In the evening, women perform the puja by reciting the Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Katha and wishing each other a happy Ahoi Ashtami. During the Puja, roli, rice, and milk are worshipped and a silver sau is used for the ritual. Afterward, the Syau is worn as a pendant around the neck. Ahoi Ashtami Aarti is also recited during the puja.

3. Ahoi Ashtami Upaaye: You should give the Goddess red and white flowers during the Ahoi Ashtami Puja. Additional contributions consist of pua, sandalwood, and halwa. In the evening, people also light diyas beneath the peepal tree.

4. Worshipping the Stars: Women do the puja and narrate the Ahoi Ashtami Katha on Ahoi Ashtami evening, following which they offer Arghya to the stars. After breaking their fast with the Goddess’s Prasad, devotees utilize the Kalash to offer Arghya to the stars.

5. Connection to Krishnashtmi: Because Ahoi Ashtami occurs on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu calendar, it is also referred to as Krishnashtami. This is seen as a highly lucky day for those who are having trouble getting pregnant. In Mathura, devotees bathe in the holy “Radha Kunda,” a pond.
